ASK6: Kimono Maiden
Technique: Canvas/Needlepoint Level: Intermediate Ground: OOE 24-mesh eggshell Congress cloth Finished Design Size: 6.5 " x 11" Price: $30.00 |
Description:
Kimono Maiden is a charming Japanese figure that was inspired by a clothespin doll. Most of the border motifs are executed in outlines of Elongated Tent stitches, but the square units are Modified Rhodes stitches that add textural contrasts to the other smooth elements. The figure itself is executed in a variety of texture stitches, and the obi is embellished with a handsome diaper pattern that combines four threads and five stitches. This pattern is an open network whereas all of the other fillings are solid or closed. The colors chosen for the design are traditional richly saturated Oriental hues. There is a dominance of warm red and black areas that contrast well with the rich gold accents, and any intense green, blue or purple may be substituted for the bright blue highlights.
